senior thesis - equality in sport

For my senior thesis, I wanted to focus on equality in sport. For the first part of my thesis, I did extensive research on famous advertising campaigns that focused on the topic of equality in sport. I chose to study the “Dream Crazy” campaign by Nike, the “Sisters in Sweat” campaign by Gatorade, and the “All Strength, No Sweat” campaign by Secret. Each of these campaigns helped influence the second part of my thesis. Once I was finished with my research, I began designing four deliverables that focused more specifically on the lack of female representation in the sports industry. My main focus was on the Women’s Football Alliance (WFA).

I wanted to create an advertising campaign on behalf of the WFA. I decided on the campaign “Fragile Feminine” which took an approach similar to guerrilla marketing. I wanted to create ads that used strong and powerful copy.

One other deliverable I created for my thesis was a style guide for a team that I made up for the WFA. I wanted to create a team in a location that didn’t previously have one, so I chose the city of Missoula in Montana. After researching Missoula, I came up with a team name, along with brand attributes that I wanted my team to have.

Once I figured out how I wanted my team to be perceived, I started the process of sketching logos and picking the color and typography palettes that I was going to use.

After many sketches, I decided on a series of logos that I was going to use for my team. The Missoula Golden Eagles were born.

Once I had the team branded, I decided to create uniforms for the team. The ones pictured here are the home uniforms.
